York County Shelter Programs Food Pantry

York County Shelter Programs first opened a food pantry in 1986. The pantry was started in the hallway of the bakery on the YCSP campus. Local stores, individuals and the bakery provided donations. The response from community members in need of food was so great that a much larger pantry was created in the Shaker barn in 2004. The agency hired a coordinator to solicit food from grocery stores, organize the pantry, and oversee volunteers, who stocked shelves and picked up donations.

In 2018 the pantry moved to a former sheriff’s building at 5 Swetts Bridge Road, just off Route 4 in Alfred. The building was donated by York County government, and renovations were made possible thanks to a grant from the Sewall Foundation.

Today the pantry feeds about 6000 people every month. It also provides a special food distribution to families and individuals at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Pet Food Pantry

We also have a Pet Food pantry, which is open the first Tuesday and third Friday of every month, 11 AM-1 PM Tuesday, 12-1 PM Friday. We provide cat food, dog food, cat litter and various pet supplies.
